Bringing Brain Injury Awareness and Prevention Information To The Community
By Annie Serra, BIAU Volunteer
The Brain Injury Alliance participated in the Salt Lake area Safe Kids Fair on February 22nd at the South Towne Expo Center.
Thousands of children and their parents visited our exhibit to learn about brain injury and injury prevention, especially the importance of wearing a helmet while biking. Children received one of our soon to be famous animal playing cards, see below, and children and adults had a chance to have their picture taken wearing the “brain hat. “
BIAU staffer Macrina Miller said, “The kids love the animal cards. Hopefully, they will serve as a reminder to use a helmet while biking for months to come.”
Thanks to our volunteers Charlotte, Sara, Lenina, Adam, Judy, Michelle, Selma, Annie, Staci and staff Macrina and Danielle for helping to make this a successful event.
The Alliance also attended the Utah Parents Association Family Links Conference on March 1st. The Conference provides information and learning opportunities to families who have a member with a disability. Alliance staffer Danielle Tippetts noted, “We talked with several people who have a brain injury or have a family member or friend with a brain injury. We’ll be following up to provide more information and help.”
